Create your own buttons – Tamara Schultz

In this workshop we create two different types of buttons which can be used in crazy quilts, art quilts and more! The first type is a custom made unique button which we embellish with charms, beads and embroidery. Create a small scene or collage effect. On the second type of button we will use fineline permanent markers to draw patterns and designs on shapes made from a plastic which shrinks with heat.

Mole heart reverse appliqué – Tamara Schultz

In this workshop students learn a technique using fusible web and reverse applique to create a small quilt which has the look of a traditional Mola quilt. Reverse applique differs from traditional applique because the artist cuts designs through a top layer to reveal the design instead of cutting out shapes to sew on the top of a quilt. An extremely easy technique that creates designs with impact.

You can attend this workshop on Thursday 20.10.2016 at 12.00 PM and Friday 21.10.2016 at 13.30.

Diagonal corner seam – Jos Hoofd

There are two ways to sew a border of 10 cm or wider to a quilt:

1. First, you stitch the border on the left and right side to the quilt with your sewing machine. You fold the edges of the border backwards and then you stitch the upper and lower edges of the border with a sewing machine. Make sure you stitches óver the sides of the border. This creates short seam on the left and right borders and longer seam on the top and bottom border.

2. There second method is used to stitch diagonal seams into the corner of the border. There is a seam from every corner of the border to every corner of the quilt. Even on the backside you will have a diagonal corner seam. All four borders have the same length which creates a picture frame effect on your quilt.

With the help of a specific folding method, a ruler and pencil you will draw lines on the rear sides of the border. We will stitch on these lines with the sewing machine. You will create perfect diagonal corners seams from the corner of the border to the corner of your quilt on each side. Students take their sample home after class.

You can attend this workshop on Thursday 20.10.2016 at 13.30 PM. and Saturday 22.10.2016 at 13.30 PM.
