Akka Philips, Middelie/The Netherlands

Akka

Akka makes cheerful quilts that are simply down to earth. With vivid colors and lots of folklore Dutch patterns she expresses her North-Holland roots. Akka lived for two years in Switzerland and three years in North-Finland which inspired her interest for weaving. For years Akka taught in Dutch highschools textile handicrafts. Since 1987 Akka has been ‘playing around with patches’ and this year she will use that experience to judge the quilts of the OEQC.
